Recently I had a buddy get a flat in his truck. He put his spare on and it was flat, so he asked if he could use mine. I drive out to his truck and we attempt to get my spare tire out (a 2005 silverado) and it lowers down about an inch or 2 but it won't come any further, but the cable does come down. We pryed on it and kicked it and tried everything we could toget it down but we could.
It has bothered me knowing that I can't get my spare tire down if I actually needed it, so I googled it and found that this is a common problem, I also found how to get it down.
So I got it down and now I'm wondering what I should do to prevent it from happening again.
There is alittle hook that acts as a secondary lock that is supposed to move out of the way, but it doesn't always move, and it gets stuck. Should I just cut the hook off, or is there a reason I should leave it on it.
Here's the hook
