I know this form is for square bodies, so if need be, point me in the direction of a ck5 for 05 suburbans, but we just got it for a family hauler and got a killer deal i think, 2300 bucks, 190k with new trans 40k ago. Runs really well but cannot pass emissions right now, has the airbag light on, its telling me to service the ride control (air ride suspension?) and other things.

You guys have any experience with these year trucks and fixing suspension issues? Emissions issues and airbag light issues? Or know where to point me? Its always the hard part of learning a new vehicle and where everything is and what it does.. shoulda gotten a square! ha

Nice deal. I loved my Silverado of the same year but it didn't have stabilitrak so I can't really help there. Evap may just be loose vac hoses. Check wiring to the O2 sensors but it looks like it may be as simple as changing out the sensor

That po449 code could be anything from an evaporation canister to the fuel cap. Sort of have to hunt for that one. Most likely O2 sensor as well, as was already said. I would start there.

In my experience with an 05 1500 Silverado, the front end ALWAYS sounds like it's loose lol... I replaced everything in mine and when I went over bumps it always sounded like something wanted to fall off :dunno:. Our work trucks from that era do too.

As for it not being a square..... Sure we love squares on here but I've found that it's pretty much a giant group of guys (and some lady's) that like all things with motors and wheels lol.

Nice burb by the way. I wouldn't mind having one as a family trip vehicle myself.... I had a buddy with an 05 4x4 burb, black, tinted windows, lowering kit, and old school cragar SS styled mags wrapped in 275 wides. I listed after that one for years lol. Had 280k on the ticker when he traded it in... Never had an issue that I know of. You'll be good with this one I'm sure :waytogo:

i drove it 35 miles down the highway home and thing ran like a top, i was pretty happy with it even with a code on the dash, and apparently the air needs help on the shocks, the compressor is like a rust pile, so thats dead and who knows how many other sensors are dead.. not sure when I wanna deal with that bs. Should be great for a few years of family hauling.

There's a lot of that vintage up here for sale, ditto for pickups, but its rare to find one with no rot on the frame rails anywhere, especially up front near the steering box,and the rear shock cross member..bumpers rot off them in 10 years or less too..

Unless it came from a southern state,or ones that dont use salt or calcium on the roads,or you luck out and get one someone didn't use in winter and garaged it,you'll see few of them here that do not have rot issues on the chassis..
I see many listed under $1000 on craigslist and on facebook marketplace, most every one has those rust issues,or wont pass inspection,or have transmission troubles..

Its sad because a lot of these trucks are mint otherwise, have fairly low miles ,nice interiors, very plush and comfortable..and the LS engine of course..

maybe look into gettin rid of the air ride? That's what they used to do with the old Lincoln mark 7's that would drag their ass. Not sure how to disable the program in the body control module though

We have an 05 Tahoe with the air ride and the same light, there is a wire you can remove in the back right panel and it will clear the code, I bypassed it and never looked back. On the steering rattle the slip shaft between the firewall is horrible about rattling, sometimes greasing it will work but on both the Tahoe and my 07 Duramax it was too worn out, O’Reilly’s sells a doorman replacement that is much better and so far no rattles. I’ll look for the thread on the autoride and link it for you.

The crankcase on the compressor does rot through and the airbags on the shocks also blow out. Getting all of this back and working is not cheap. Be aware the Arnott shocks are not dual-rate electric shocks, but standard shocks with airbags and fake-out resistors. They also offer re-bagged stock shocks, but the shock part is not rebuilt.

I built a replacement compressor using parts of the stock one and another from some Buick. Arnott has provided a lot of compressors over the years.

I would also check the the fuel pressure sensor on top of the sending unit. It is a problem the throws the P0449 code. Also if it has not been relocated the evaporator canister will clog up with dirt.

Thanks for the link. I dont think its sagging or anything currently, it just simply says service ride system or something on the odometer screen, which oddly also fades in and out unless you tap the dash panel.

The air leveling system is supposed to give the nice ride of a soft coil spring, without sagging under load. So for regular driving you can live without it. If you plan to tow or regularly have a lot of cargo it should probably be fixed.
