Curious will a 2007-2009 chevy 1500 crew cab 4x4 6.0 tow a 87 K5 with 1 tons and 35's on trailer safely?

According to the owners manual, a 2009 crew cab short box 1500 with the 6.0 and the NHT option for max trailering package has the max trailer weight at 10,400 pounds and gross combined weight is 16,000 pounds. That drops to 9,300 pounds max trailer weight and 15,000 gross combined if you only have the K5L HD cooling package. If you lack either option is falls to 6,300 pounds max trailer weight and 12,000 gross combined.

It all comes down to weight and what the truck is rated for. If it's a heavy trailer with the k5 on tons it might be pushing it if you don't have the HD cooling or max trailering packages.

Under what conditions? I've hauled plenty of heavy trailers with garden tractors and Ford Rangers. Safely, even, given the circumstances. But I've also ridden a runaway 1/2-ton into oncoming traffic on Interstate 40. I never, ever, EVER want to do that again. :eek1: :doah:

There are a whole lot of factors at play here, are we talking about the Rockies or city driving or a quiet rural backroad with no traffic? The risk levels vary widely based on conditions.

Bags and a rear sway bar and you'll be fine. I had a L76/6L80e 1/2 ton extended cab and it was fine for towing way more than 10,000lbs. The integrated brake controller, bags, and swaybar made the difference.
