I posted about getting a new truck and have narrowed it down to a new Chevy Silverado 4x4 extended or crew. The 2500's are alot more plentiful, but they only have a 9900-10,000# GVWR while the 3500 SRW has an 11,000-11,600# weight rating.

I'm going to mount a Knapheide utility box on it and stuff it full of....stuff.

What differences do the 2500 and 3500 have besides springs....beefier frame? different rear? or just springs?or full float rear vs. semi float?

Thanks,

Mike

In the rear it should be only a different spring rate on the spring pack, with the Dmax option of course. In the Ford and Dodge, there is no difference in the front end, springs and all. With IFS under the GM, there very well could be a spring rate difference. Frame and brakes should be the same.

Doesn't rear diff depend on engine?
I don't think a semifloat is used at all, just the 10.5 and 11.5
I think the frames are the same, just spring rates/torsion being different.
And isn't the 3500 dually the highest GVW, then the 3500SRW, then the 2500 SRW?

Thought the 2500HD was SRW and the 3500 DRW?

Just depends, seems like over the years they've all discontinued, and then continued building 3500SRW's. Dodge for example, 94-02 were all 3500 DRW only, '03 you could get a 3500SRW, my Mega Cab is a 3500SRW. Only difference at all is an extra leaf in the rear pack, and my registration cost.:doah:

I bought a Dodge!

Hey guys- I thought it would be out of my price range, but I purchased a 2011 Dodge 3500 4X4 DRW Crewcab CTD with a manual tranny:woot:

I still need to order a utility body for it.

I'll get some pics up later.

Same here! tough to beat the reliability of the Cummins. Good choice on the stick... I ended up with the auto and it is sort of a love / hate relationship...
