2012 CARNAGE thread

He was steering, but no stuff was happening

I grasp the technical explanation. :D

I was sort of looking for a first-hand experience play-by-play...

Look. I'm bored over here in BTR. While you guys were playing in Moab, I got to attend a Toyota Land Cruiser meeting in New Orleans. In the parking lot of a Toyota dealership. In the heat, and humidity. With absolutely nothing going on, except some T-shirt sales. Really, nothing else. OK, some guy brought a rig with a trash-a-roo, nevermind that it was an FJ Cruiser that probably has never seen a piece of red rock... so 18 hours on Golden Spike suddenly somehow sounded really cool...

I really like my new-to-me Toyota Land Cruiser, but throw me a bone here... :D

We say "steer and stuff" to each other when spotting sometimes. Nothing to exciting though. He turned a corner at the beginning of rusty nail, and he just went straight. It was barely after where it splits from gold bar. So no obstacles or ledges. The day before we talked him into just putting his nose into the squeeze on Helldarodo. Once his nose was in he was committed and had to be pulled the last bit of the way through. As he says, he only got one dent, just goes from the front to the back. Then he tried his ass off to make the waterfall, put on a great show. I got some vid I haven't had a chance to post of it, but will in the next couple days. Pretty sure Helldarodo did it in, and a little turn on Rusty Nail finished it.

Realy lucky it broke there too on the flat rock instead of helldorado like Scott said or even the dirt road in to Rusty Nail that we were running 50-70 across the ruts and bumps.

You guys pretty much told the whole story. :thumb: Michael, it didn't feel like Blazer Bash without you or Dave there. Oh and Stephen told me I should replace the sector shaft on a semi-annual basis. :haha:

I believe Stephen said that every couple months you should just pick a part and replace it, just in case.

I wasn't trying to take your story, just seemed like jms was hurting for some good reading! Next time we run Helldarodo we should take jms with us. I imagine he could get some great pics of the square peg in a round hole!

Yes, that's right...

Your perspective on the story was GREAT and kept me from having to type that much! :thumb:

I'm used to the liberal application of throttle where I normally wheel and that is not really needed in Moab from what I have found. I snapped my front driveshaft. not a joint, the driveshaft. I learned how not to use the skinny peddle and after it was welded back up i drove the last 12 hours of the run without any further breakage. But i will say this, that driveshaft was a worn out junkyard piece that someone threw together. it held up under my right foot for five years. Im just glad I didnt break something harder to fix. Luckily someone had a welder and someone better at welding then me was putting down the bead! Thank you for all of the help.

I have a picture of it broken and I have a Video of it being welded, but I don't have one of the weld. When I get back in the country Ill get one for you. of if there is some way to upload a Video i can do that.

Did anyone get any pictures of the weld job we did on a driveline on the Trifecta ride? First time I used the on board welder and it did great! I had to read the instructions and I guess that impressed all the women on the trip:D Women are not suppose to see guys reading instructions!:haha:Lol
The Driveline held together all the way out!!!
We had a good Redneck fix on the Red Blazer to solve his Axel wrap on Trifecta ride also that I believe someone took pictures of. D Rings, Bolts, some clamps & Duct Tape got him out!!! Lol

Thats a strange break ripping the tube open like that. What kind of material was that?

And yes i did cange my dring style quite a bit to make it out. But i think i will stick with less skinny peddle. I know its there if I need it.

I know there were a bunch of pics taken..... Chris did a great job after that, he picked up how to bump it easy and drive with a lot less throttle. He only had to be pulled over Back Scratcher because the carb wasn't happy with that much angle.

Oh and just letting you know if your truck didn't have a name, the guys started calling it Thumper. That 555 sounds good.

I herad someone ask Chris if he had a broom stick for a driveline!:haha:I don't care who you are that statement was funny!

Its a Hair larger then a broomstick! ... maybe. and honestly i thought it was solid when I grabbed it....I was wrong. But thanks to that welder of yours we know it has at least one strong part. Thank you again for the help!

well it took three days driving to return home. Only thing broke in moab was a rear axle seal started leaking a small amount of fluid, On the way home though i stopped in ogden utah to fuel up and after filling up the tank my jimmy wouldent start . Found i had no fuel pressure likely a failed fuel pump. the pump is in-tank mounted high pressure edelbrock unit. Searched out a home depot and bought a cordless zip cutter, bought a fuel pump from the local NAPA. I cut a section of floor out above the fuel tank pump hanger sender unit and replaced the pump and strainer. Fired right back up ran great , about 70 mph alll the way home. lost about a half days travel time and arrived home wed night around midnight. Had areal good time and enjoyed wheeling with you boys
