One of my coworkers has one of these- she dropped it off at a shop this morning before work for a tire change and they told her something was dragging underneath. She is totally car illiterate, so she didn't remember what they told her. She also said they told her there was a "slow oil leak".

I couldn't find anywhere that there's an oil pan cover, or undercarriage cover on this vehicle- that has to be what's "dragging".

Anyone have any experience with these cars? Is the undercarriage cover really necessary? (although I suppose if it's "dragging" that means she's kind of an idiot and probably it is...)

I'm trying to keep her from getting had. Any links or info would be helpful.

there is usually a plastic splash shield that attaches to the front facia (lower bumper) and to the inner fender/frame area on the sides. It may also go back as far as the front cradle crossmember. If that is what was dragging, its mostly there to keep debris and splash away from the lower engine components (like the accessories mounted to the engine that are belt driven)
many cars have had them removed with minimal ill effects. Its good to have it in place, but not necessary.
