2017 Razor Dune Buggy - Electric Go-Kart Build

I remember a friend putting a Chevy starter motor on his mini-bike with a group 27 battery ,he threw it together crudely ,just welded a sprocket where the starter drive was to the armature, and used big conduit clamps to attach the motor to the frame..used a Ford solenoid as an on-off switch to a push button on the handlebar to turn the motor on..

No one thought it would work.."It'll barely move,it wont have any power to climb hills, the battery will die after a few hundred feet" they said..

Well, that theory was shot down the first time he tried to ride it..

He pushed the button, the mini-bike popped a wheelie, shot out from under his butt and crashed into a shed about 50 feet away !..

The thing had such fast acceleration ,it needed some sort of variable speed controller, the solenoid as an on-off switch wasn't the hot setup--to ride it he had to push it to get it rolling before he pushed the button,or push it several times a few seconds apart to take off without it leaving him behind!...it went about 40 mph topped out too..the battery did die fairly quickly though,it was only good for about 10 minutes before it would barely propel it..

My son had the same one with slick wheels. He had a lot of fun sliding around on the drive in that. He's 14 now.
