What if I told you this front axle was 32" spring center pin width? Not entirely sure it's a 70. Sure looks like a 60f but doesnt have the traditional 60f or anything in the bottom right webbing. I peeled the cover sticker off the tag.

Appears to be 1480 front pinion yoke.
1550 shafts.

None of my Dana literature is new enough to have these parts in them.
So do you know if this is something we can put 8x6.5 like those kit axles?

Hell. Even toss super duty knuckles on it.

I don't know for sure, but I googled the 60-256 and was looking around, I bet you could swap knuckles.... IE. I bet gm wasn't willing to pay Dana to develop an entire new axle, just swap the knuckle. I could be wrong.
And was actually going to make that point. If you couldn't change those outers why would you want it, even if it was a 70?
Guess a guy could always run a recentered/resized wheel or something.

It's almost useless as a 60f as is. Cool for a drw truck though. Especially if it was a 70f. But I am biased to 70s lol

If it was able to be knuckle swapped, it's a super expensive option for the driver drop leaf spring guys.
I was just excited by the 32" perch center.

Coilovers.

Interesting. How big are the tubes?

Any ratio on the tcase tag? The way the front springs have the big gap at the eye is weird, I would think somewhere / somehow that would stress the lower spring.

Looks a ton like the typical superduty 3.75 tube diameter. It did have a meritor case but I didnt retain the ratio or model number. It's barely legible in the pic. The springs like that is a medium duty thing I've seen and yeah I dont get it either.

But I also learned the 5500hd also specs the 60f. Boooorrriiiiing.

Does the Meritor tcase make it a conversion? If so, that would explain the 60 (vs something beefier).

No, but youd think so. This is a complete gm off the lot truck assembly. Gm rpo code ftb.
Has meritor brakes too.

Any reason you can't swap the knuckles to opposite sides so the tie rod is out front and flip the tie rod to the top after retapering the holes?

I think the steering arm is part of the knuckle. I'm second guessing myself.

My '08 4500 has a 70 front. That is real disappointing to see they changed. Does a 5500 or 6500 have a 4wd option these days?
