My brother had been driving my '77 for a while and brought it back to my house last week. I went to move it today, and in the process, I bumped the shifter for the 203 and noticed it was flopping all around. Both mounting bolts for the shifter were very loose, and after inspection, I found the rest of the t-case to adapter bolts were no longer tight.
I tightened all of them back up, but the very top center bolt seemed like it was stripped out. The threads on the bolt looked just fine. So I put in a new bolt that was about 1/4 inch longer. It was snug the whole way in, but it did tighten up even though I likely cross-threaded it. Now I'm concerned with the possibility that the new bolt protrudes too far into the case and causing a clearance issue. Anyone know if this might be a problem? I have a feeling that the old bolt was too short and the new one gets into some good threads.
