203 part time possible issue

It is.... I forgot about it then when searching I found an old thread of mine from a few years ago.. I just empty the 203 and refill and check transmission fluid drain and refill until I get enough $$$ to do the 205

What would being able to touch the chain or not reveal?
Just to see if it has the kind of slack that would let it slip on the sprockets. If you're sure the noise is in the T-case, the other likely culprit is that it's not fully engaging the front drive. Could be something with the part-time kit or the shift linkage.

You have a TH350 don’t you? Doesn’t the 205 just bolt right in place of the 203? What’s the $$$ for?

Yes th350. Exhaust and drive lines need to be redone...I want the Tcase back to the stock location and not dropped as it is presently. In order for that to happen exhaust has to be redone, passenger sides is a bit too low to accommodate that.

I also have the ORD competition motors mounts to install as well while in at all this. And with my luck raising that Tcase back up will probably give me drive line vibrations. Then I'll have to fix that

Ah gotcha, so you could theoretically drop the 203, bolt in the 205 as is for now using driveshafts from a 350/205 blazer, just as a low cost alternative and then do the other stuff as time allows

The TH350/205 combo should give you enough rear shaft length to avoid any unavoidable vibrations assuming joints are in phase and angles are happy.

You could also remove the exhaust for a while and find out just how much your neighbors like you….

Yes... I could browse around for those driveshafts... hmm. I may do it sooner than I planned. All this talk is making me want to get going on this.

I could get all this removed in a day for sure. Bolt up 205 the next day. I want to do those motor mounts while I'm in there though, hell I bought them already. Hahahaha

May want to check your front shaft, I found out that the front shafts are the same between a 400/203, 400/205, 400/208 truck, so yours may work, rear will probably be longer as the 203 is longer than a 205

The front shaft will be shorter going to the 205.
The 203’s front output yoke is behind the range box portion of the 203 case and does not workout as good as the 400’s and various cases and adapter lengths.

Although a 465/205 ( figure eight style adapter ) front shaft and 350/205 shafts are very close in length. Gives ya more options to pick from - rear as well assuming same wheelbase from donor truck.

I had a part time kit in a np203. When I attempted to place the tranny in drive the tcase made chain noise. I ended up going to a np205-th350 which solved the issue.

When my 74 k5 was my only vehicle and I broke the chain and case on the 203going to work, I went to pick n pull after work, got a 205, didn't think of getting the driveshafts, got home and started working, and by 5am I was done with the swap so I could go to work.
I had a driveshaft that was close enough for the rear so used it until my tom woods shafts came
