So the th350 has taken a dump in my '78 blazer and I'd like to get something swapped in fairly soon but it's not life or death. Will a 465 bolt right in place lengthwise? Other than clutch linkage is there anything I'd need to take care of with the 203? The trans would either be from a 79 or 74.

If not a 465 what would it require to swap in a 700? The keywords I've searched haven't helped me much, most are going from 350>700 not the reverse. :doah:

Your 203 is a 27 spline input and all SM465's are either 10 or 32 spline. You would obviously need a different t-case.

If you want to install a 700R4 then you would need to shorten the rear shaft and lengthen the front shaft. You would also have to address the TCC for the convertor to lock which is easy to deal with as there are several companies that sell a kit for doing that. You would also need to have a proper bracket for the TV cable, (different from the TH350 kickdown cable). You would also need a t-case and adapter that will bolt up to the 700R4.

A buddy and I once swapped tranny's. my 350 for his 465, after the fact we realized our stupidity. But, both tcases also had different output. So we swapped outputs on my tailgate in a parking lot. Just saying this so that if you do find the right spline in, look at the output too. If it's different, and you don't want to search for the right driveshaft, don't worry about swapping parts. We've never done it before and it only took a half hour. Very simple.

edit: to be clear, this was on 205's, not 203's. I know 205's were very common behind the 465. Not sure about 203.
