I am planning some major upgrades to my K5 this summer. Trying to allow for future upgrades without having to tear things out or totally apart. My current plan is use a 700R4 trans with a Lomax 205. I want the OD gear because the rig will be driven on the road. Also, the 3:1 first gear in the 700R4 and Lowmax with give me 9:1 from the crank. Which is close to the 10:1 you get with a 203/205 doubler and 2.5:1 first gear in a TH400. (Yes, I know you can't get a Lowmax right now.) I am going to have a strengthened 700R4 built so it will have a 32 spline output shaft to mate to the Lowmax.
Would it be possible to put a 203 range box between these two at a later date without changing shafts in the Lowmax or the 700R4? If I understood what I have read, the 203s that came behind 400s had 32 spline inputs. Would this work or would the output shaft on the 700R4 be the wrong length?
