203 Shaft Conversion - Shift Pattern Question

OK, I understand with the 203 shaft conversion, shift pattern changes, with 4 Hi, 4 LO, 2HI, 2LO.

What happens to "Loc", as in the "4 Loc" position. Does the "Loc" capability go away, or are "4" always "loc"d.

Loc will be your 4x4 modes. High and Low will be your 2x4 modes and yes you get 2 low.

I may not have asked that right.

I understand before the conversion there is a differential between the driveshafts that let them turn at different speeds. "Loc", locks the front and rear driveshaft so they must turn together (Kind of like a "locker" for the driveshafts).

My question is, after conversion, in 4HI and 4LO, are the driveshafts "Loc"d or Not. If they are "Loc"d, that makes driving a little bumpy on turns. If they are not, it would seem I have lost some capability that might add more traction.

Before the conversion, you have five shift positions, 4 low-loc (locks the two drive shafts together), 4 low (allows a little slipage), N (nothing spins), 4 hi (same as 4 lo only in high range), and 4 hi-loc ( same as 4 low-loc except in high range).
After the conversion you still have five shift positions, 4 low-loc (same as above), 4 low (low range two wheel drive, front drive shaft does not spin), N (same as above), 4 hi (high range 2 wheel drive, front drive shaft does not spin) and 4 hi-loc (same as above).
This deals with the 203 part time conversion assuming that you install manual hubs. If you dont install the hubs, then all bets are off. Don't laugh, a friend of mine did this in a Ramcharger and ended up rebuilding everything.

What you are saying is (I think), The "Loc'd" mode gives you 4WD, (Hi and Lo). The "UnLoc'd" gives you 2wd. The "UnLoc'd 4WD" goes away.
