I was wondering why the new doublers are made out of aluminum? shouldnt it be stronger out of steel? isnt aluminum to weak for to giant cast iron cases? i would rather have steel so you can weld onto it. is there any benefits to aluminum other then lighter and easier to machine? That is why i dont like the atlas, its made of aluminum.

When i ordered my shackle flip i asked about that and they said its as strong. The reason is that with aluminum sp? they cam machine it in house, so the material is a little more but there cost is down thats why the price is the same too.

no i just asked about the change in the doubler when i had them on the phone ordering my flip /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

Flips are still steel, Doublers are alum. Basically we cut down the human involvement on the adapter so despite the cost of a giant chunk of aluminum, we build a better part faster and for the same price. They're gusseted more, and use thicker sections in all areas than the steel version. This isn't your everyday die cast alum. adapter housing.
Keep in mind that 6061T6 alum. we use is similar in strength or STRONGER than the steel we use. And everything is beefier in the new adapter. So I'm not really worried about the strength.

Wow i just seen pictures of the adapter for the doubler in the forum made of aluinum! All i can say is EXCELLENT. ORD you are a god of fabrication. All my doulbts are gone!

People usually feel better after viewing the aluminum monolith. Several doubters have been converted by that experience.

Just for reference 6061 t6 is a very weldable alloy also, not that you should need to weld on it but if you did it can be welded!
