So before i put my 205 transfer case on I swapped out the rear shaft to a 32 spline shaft, mainly to eliminate the slip yoke.
I called up HAD and ordered the stuff i needed.
The new shaft, big internal gear, the speedo housing, and the CV mount (HAD Specialty)

So after swapping all my needle bearings over and putting it all back together with the new/used parts.... The HAD flange wont go on all the way...

On the end of the shaft, there is a little "C" ring that holds stuff in place... It slides over the shaft and clips into a valley on the shaft.

Problem is, when i put the HAd shaft on, it hits the "C" clip.. and wont tighten up without breakign this clip...
If i remove that clip.. it would tighten up against the bearing in the speedo housing..

Also i guess i need some sort of gasket/seal to seal around the flange/housing... right now it's open right to the bearing... :doah:

I'm gonna call Jesse on Tuesday and see what he says, but am curious if anyone else has done this...

here's the flange

I'm pretty sure you're problem is that the 205 with a slip yoke probably used a clip on the output shaft just behind the bearing but on a fixed yoke 205 i don't remember there being a clip there. I just rebuilt two 205's within the last couple weeks. With the fixed yoke 205 when the flange is installed it will "Sandwhich" the speedo gear between the bearing and the flange which is what controls thrust in a fixed yoke case.

What he said ^^^^.

There's no clip on the one I rebuilt a few months ago. I had some similar confusion, but it was around the rubber gasket that goes under the nut that holds the flange on.

hmmm...
that's kinda what i thought.. about there not being a C clip on the end...
But i didnt know if i was supposed to tighten up the flange against that speedo bearing....

Solved -

So the "C" clip isnt used anymore...
When you swap in the short shaft, with a yoke or the HAD flange you throw out the c-clip, and tourque the flange or yoke up against the bearing in the speedo housing.

Problem solved.

Part number for the seal is 473-468 national seal number 8 bucks at autozone.
