Still tinkering with a noise from the 205.
Is there adjustment I can make in the linkage to ensure that it is engaging 4 high all the way? Part of the noise sounds like possibly not entirely into 4wd.

no adjustments that I'm aware of.

Make sure the boot or anything else isn't preventing the shifter throw

not realy . the sifter design kind of sucked and old age / wear makes it worse .

lots of us just twin stick shifter it . much better style and shifts so much smother.

also grab some spray oil ( not just wd-40 or pb blaster or such ) and lube she shift rails were they go in the case . and check the shifter piviot bolt or body area were the bolt goes threw . lots of them have a grease fitting .

if its a old case and lots of miles the shift rails could be worn on the inside and binding a little bit . have to diss assemble to find this out tho .

small update. I notice that when I pull back for 4wd it was making a "something hit the body" sound and i pulled the boot off and the shifter hits the floorboard/transmission cover. I tried to adjust some washers that were on the "main" bolt that holds the shifter on, basically i removed them all to pull the shifter toward the drivers side a bit, still no go. I dont have a way to heat and bend the shifter so I may just drill out a little bit there at the bottom and see what I can get. I really need to try this in 4lo and see if I have the same issue...

or possible someone swapped in the 205 and didn't have the correct hole position .

also 205 has different shifter bends for tranny combos .

Well it looks like they attempted to make their own "hole position" for it. Lol
If I get time I'm gonna tinker with it. Wish I had just twin sticked it when I had it out before.

okay I got the shifter squared away. I was able to play with some washers and somehow get it lined up. It is still wobbly as hell and I hate that but its not hitting the body.
However, I put it 4wd and same issue, once Im up to speed noise. I tried 4 low, same thing. Im back to it being a driveshaft issue.

is it the correct bolt for the shifter ? there a odd size and the next one down fits but stays sloppy .

also have you ever run a 205 before ?

there a bit of a nosy case if your not use to them .

also check the oil level in the 205 .

You'd have to see my original post about it the issue I guess. I don't have a link to it right now though. It sounds like marbles or the teeth inside aren't lined up right or something.

i under stand that .

you didn't answer my questions you just replyed to tho .

205 can sound kind of grindy on decel off the gas .

or it could be a bearing starting to et pitted up and make a noise .

I'm not sure if it is the correct bolt as I did not perform the swap.
This noise is not just deceleration. Once I hit x speed I get noise.
The fluid should be appropriate as I pulled the case last summer to fix the seals between case and transmission. I'll check it again though.
I've considered the front output shaft bearing. We are going to try and put it on a lift soon to help diagnose.

if you need some bolts or any linkage let me know, I have some parts laying around that you can have.

I think the slop comes from the pins and cotter pins holding it all together. may throw in some tiny washers or something to pick up the slack. but thats the least of my issue right now. :D
