Swapped my turbo 400 and 205 transfer case in and need to know if the 205 takes tranny fluid or gear oil and how much?

I've never had mine completely empty, but I would say that it takes about three quarts of the gear oil.

4 quarts to the fill plug, depends if it is clocked or not.

You Can run ATF (tranny fluid) or 80-90w gear oil. If it is a DD, ATF is fine, for a rig that sees 4x4 constantly I would suggest gear oil.

This was what I was wondering...when I pulled the transfer case apart from the tranny it looked like it had ATF in it and I had always heard it takes gear oil...I was really confused!! I didn't realize you could run both. I will be switching to gear oil since its not much of a daily driver anymore
