Here is what I got. 400 trans / 205 case, slip yoke (remember this). And also a 465 trans / 205 case, bolt on yoke (10 spline). I want to use the 400/205 setup but NOT with the slip yoke. So here is the question....

Can I take the slip yoke (the whole back section) off the 400/205 setup and and put the bolt on yoke (section) from the 465/205 onto the 400/205? Basicaly swapping the back yoke sections. If so, what am I in for?

Yeah you should have no problems. I replaced a slip yoke on a 205 with a kit from JB Conversions, the kit was just the short output shaft, bearing retainer and yoke. Could have just taken it off another case if I had one.

Yup, it'll all swap out. Do a lil diggen and find the 205 exploded view diagram and go to it. Not too bad of a job. Oh- may as well twin stick it while you're there. prolly don;t even have to buy a gasket kit. RTV aughta do it.

Simple job, just have a catch can ready and a magnet as the needle bearings that ride between the input and output shaft sometimes fall into the case. I think there is 15, but it's been a while (someone else should be able to confirm the number). Use grease to hold them in when doing the re-install of the fixed yoke into your other case.

Agreed.

Pretty easy swap, and if you think you will EVER desire twinsticks, do it now with the case out.

The trickiest part is getting those needle bearings to stay put.

Don't even need to take the thing apart, it will all come out the back.

Stand the case(s) up on the input shaft, the bearings won't go anywhere that way.
