I have 2 questions, first my 205 has a 10 spline front output vs. the 30 spline how bad is this. I know the more splines the better so is the 10 spline junk or what and my second question is if it is junk how big a deal is (or is it even possible) it to swap in a 30 spline. If it matters I don't know the year but it has a 27 spline input cause I am putting it to a th350 and it has the fixed rear output. Thanks for any help!!

They're not "junk", just weaker when used with upgraded parts like lower gear ratios and aftermarket stuff.

30 spline is common GM. If you really want to beef it up, get a 32 spline unit from a Ford. You have more selections of yokes to choose from.

10 spline is ok with stock stuff and light foot.

I don't think 10 spline is the strongest, but I do not think it is as weak as some would say. 10 splines have been in fully loaded 1-tons pulling large trailers, and getting the snot kicked out of them for years without a problem. Think of all the duallys on the road still after years of plowing, being overloaded and just trashed, but still no problen with the t-case. I know lots of self-employed guys that run 10 spline trucks, and when it comes to losing money or beating a truck, you hit the go pedal. And when the frame is finally broke, I pull the 465/205 out to put in my junk.

I would run it and if you have a problem then upgrade. Or if it's going to be sitting out of the truck, you got the cash, it wouldn't be holding you up, and you want braggin rights then upgrade it.

thanks for the info but I am not sure if you are talking about the tcase to trans connection or the front output for the front driveshaft? I am asking about the front output the driveshaft will come from to the front axle mine is 10 spline.

Just to add on to the pile, upgrading from the 10 spline is more useful if you want the extra yoke options. i don't think you need it especially if it's on the front driveshaft which tends to not see as much abuse.

I was talking about both. If you can get the front output for what you would want to pay, and it will not hold you up, then swap it out, since it's not hard to do. My rant was just on how I always hear how bad 10 spline is. I would not ever be scared to run the old 10 spline stuff, but there is stronger. I will upgrade myself one day when I already have the parts waiting and there is a reason to drop my t-case.

I upgraded mine to 32 spline front output purely so I could run a 1410 yoke for the front shaft...the 10 spline leaves you with some comparitively weak and limited choices.

I did run a 10 spline input'd 205 for many years and the only problem I had was breaking the adaptor once. The coupler itself never gave me any trouble. That case had the 30 spline front output (also pretty limited for yoke or CV choices)

Don't bother upgrading the front output unless you need a different yoke.

The 10 spline front output can only use a 1310 yoke, the 32 spline yoke (from a Ford 205) uses the same yoke as the rear output and has lots of options.
