How do i determine what make of shift rails i have? I bought some about 4 years ago from doctor4x4 but i can't remember if they were Chevy or Ford. My 205 is a Chevy and i know i can't use Ford rails so i'm guessing they are Chevy.

I have both chevy and ford ones in a box at my parents. I know right where it is. Let me know if you need either or.

Jason, the chevy rails are they short or long?

one is short and one is longer. :D IIRC they are the same as the ones in my rig. I can bring them all and you can take a look at them.
I might be able to drop by first thing friday. What time do you get to the shop?

That would be cool, i am only interested in the chevy rails. I am at the shop usually about 7:50am.

Sorry Greg, you super mod you, i'm assuming i get my pee pee slapped for starting a thread in the garage and turning it into a wanted thread instead. :D

That's right. The rules apply to everyone here....seriously.

Take the rest to PMs if you don't mind. It sounds like you solved the "technical" part of your inquiry here already. :deal:

Not really, for other viewing this thread, we still don't what the difference is between ford and chevy shift rails.
I going to assume the difference is the clocking of the roll pin hole. I would think the detent slots would be the same.
I would like to know so I can be a better on-line mechanic. A person who seems to know a lot but in reality don’t know squat.

The detent slots are opposite on ford rails as the case is a driver drop instead of a passenger drop.

The long and short a switched also.

So how does that work? The detent slots can't move if the same drop case is being used since those are in relation to the spring and plug hole alignment and those don't change on the same drop case.

Umm I dunno. I just thought when I took the ford case apart the long was ah hell my brain hurts.

The first picture is Ford short rail and the last is GM

Can you do me a favor and measure from the end of the shaft where the hole is to the center of the hole.

EDIT: No need to measure now, i've already cut my rail shorter. Turns out the spare rails i have are Ford rails. I took a measurement of what i needed to remove so that the rail doesn't interfere with my doubler. Now onto the rail grinding process. I need to search for how much and where to grind.

Ok, i just finished up grinding the rail now i'm ready for a twin stick on my 205. I checked everything before reinstalling the detent balls and it works perfectly.
