I have an 81 sub with a 350 th350 208. I have a 205 to swap in so my questions are I know I need the th350 to 205 adaptor and the little splined coupler but I have heard that you dont realy need to keep the bearing that goes in the adaptor, anyone know about this?? And second can I reuse my 208's crossmember or do I need to get one from a truck that has/had a 205?? Does the crossmember just go under the adaptor if it does that seems like alot of weight hanging on out past the adaptor. Any help would be great, thanks

IIRC the output shaft on your TH350 is not the correct stick out length for a 205 so you would need to install the correct output shaft or use the TH350/208 adapter and redrill the adapter pattern on the face of the 205. Depending on which pattern 205 you case you have it may not be possible to do that.

what??? the 205 i have came from behind a th350 trans???? it has the figure 8 patern on the 205

Ok, but your TH350 has a 208 behind it which has a longer output shaft and needs to be changed for the correct output for a 205.

SOB!!!! well i was thinking about a new trans instead of a rebuild anyway how do i get the one i need how do i know if it will work with the 205

The trans output shaft stick out length needs to be about 7/8" from the end of the case, this was used with the 203 and 205 t-cases.

can i shave off the shaft coming out of the trans to work? i have never seen when i look at trans to buy where they say what tcase will work behind it??

No you can't just cut the shaft as there wouldn't be enough spline left. The 208 stickout is about 2 3/8".

thanks for the info, very helpful i guess i will just buy an old th350 that had a 205 or 203 behind it and rebuild it what about my other question about the crossmember and the weight hang-over
