how rare is it to come across a np205 transfer case in a mid 70's blazer mated to the th350? seems as though most have the np203. was it something you had to special order?

kind of hit or miss I guess. I have seen lots of th350/205 combos and th350/203 .

welcome to the site . and I like the rims on your ride in your avatar . are they true western wheel brand ?

I'm a 15x10 kind of guy plus I like the slot mags. That's the direction I'm going in. I have all the original oem parts to put on this rig and new mod to put under the hood and in the drive train. If the wheels were a little wider I might reconsider.

I am pondering doing a swap. i have done some reading on what i need to make it happen but I may wait a while. I may buy the pieces one by one and just take my time getting it together.

what's the reason for the swap?

just thinking about the improvement of the 205. That's why I'm just thinking about it for now. I had a 72 several years ago with a 205. I have had a few dana 20's and 208's and 241's. this is my first 203 and it has been converted so I may do nothing until I have a reason to. Most of the rigs I have owned and sold always leave better than I got them. That's why I am not in a ball of fire hurry with this one.

Many will argue the 203 is better for certain applications. Really depends on intended use.

well I wont be climbing any rocks are burying it to the windows. that's part of what has me in no hurry. it will see the highway more than mud. It managed to survive original this long I may keep it that way.

to here this from me is rare . . . . .

a good working 203 with conversion kit done only needs a twin stick shifter mod to make it perfect . offroad design make them .

there is no real advantage i have seen . unless your chain is streched and needs a rebuild and you have ALL the parts to change it . even drive shafts need swapped for length diffrence .

I'd leave the 203 too, make it part time.

Between the cost of the th350/205 adapter and modification of both driveshafts its not a cheap mod.

How difficult is a twin stick modification? What advantages to I get from that?

I am going to take this helpful info into consideration. its seems like a more practical choice for me. thanks for the info

no problem . take it from some of us . . . dont jump right in . lots or real world feedback posted on this place to get ideas from .

I just did this, and it cost WAY more than I expected. Spent $300 for a used 205/350 combo. Bought the seal kit and tried to rebuild it myself, but found I was over my head. So took it to a reputable shop. About $900 to rebuild it, adding the CV joint in the front (it was an early version). They had to replace some internals, shift forks I think, as well. Then I couldn't get the damn thing to slide onto the tail shaft. Even paid a mechanic (son of a friend) $200 to come over and help. We couldn't get it. So I ended up dropping the trans, putting everything together on the ground, and reinstalling. Then paid over $800 for new driveshafts. So this "swap" ended up costing over $2,200. Yes, it's done right.....but that was a lot of coin.
