I know all other gm 1 tons have the 205. Do these have a 208 because the gov wanted the lower gearing of the 208? Thats the only thing i can think of. Any other ideas why?

some of the CUCV had the 205 because it has a PTO.

Most likely because the 208 was the standard transfer case for civilian model trucks at the time, and in general it will hold up just fine..........especially considering that a CUCV had maybe a 150 hp engine and 235/85 tires.......
