My rig has a fairly bad oil leak from either the rear main or the pan. Perhaps even an oil gallery plug on the rt side of the rear block. It's nearly impossible to tell which without R&R of the drivetrain.

Q: Any idea how much each of the transfer case and transmission weigh? I'm debating whether I should rent a tranny jack. I'm not a big fan of crushed ribs.

Q: Anyone out there found a nice scope for investigating such pesky leaks?

Check the oil sending unit at the back of the block because I had had them start leaking very bad in fact I had one explode on my red truck sitting in the drive. That mad a very nice mess for the 2 seconds it ran before I could shut it down. Get a tranny jack you will hard your self trying to lift an nv 4500 in place. Hope this helps.

Oil dye. That stuff works good! The t-case isnt too heavy, you can R&R with your arms. Tranny, a few hundred pounds, id suggest a tranny jack.
