208 pops out of gear

Just bought this thing at a really good deal. Whatcha think would cause my new 86 blazer 208 t-case to pop out of gear when slamming on the brakes? Ive checked linkage and mounts they seem fine. It has A crate motor, could anything arise from that?

mine pops out in 4lo all the time...especially on steep hills...im not really that worried about it because im in the process of putting a doubler in my truck...sorry no help

208 are notorious for falling out of gear.

Two things adjust shift linkage properly. Sounds like that is done.

Next Shift forks inside of case wear down over time and will slip out of gear. Time to think about swapping in a new gear driven case.

For now use a bungie cord to keep it in the gear you need!

yeah mine popped out on a long hill climb at uhwarrie a few weeks ago...you talk about scary..

You talkin about bunjeeing the linkage under the truck or the shift lever inside the truck? Also whats the best way to adjust the shift linkage?

from what ive seen you just run a bungee or a rachet strap from the shifter to something in the back when you are in 4low

208's are plentiful for replacement (which is sounds like you did) but they are also easily rebuildable.

Hmmm my 208 has never popped out of gear on me... I've romped on it hard on the pavement in 4wd (hubs unlocked...just needed it for the gearing) and it never popped out on me while I was in the sand either...
You guys think it has something to do with gearing? My 4.10's and "38.5's" (measure out to 37's) is kind of tall compared to what most of you run...

seriously mine has popped out like 5 times and only under throttle...it definiley scares you when it happens...i have to cut the truck off to keep it from grinding going back in 4wd...

happens to me, i hold it, and reverse for twenty five feet, if it pops out i make the passenger hold it i was planning on using a bungee for next time

This one only popped out of two wheel drive when slamming on the brakes. popped out of four low with a little throttle. Dumped out some gear oil upon detachment. Maybe that be the problem?

well here is the problem, your using gear oil in a 208!

That was an idiotic mistake by the previous owner. Gear oil got me the truck for cheap! Thanks gear oil.

I just put mobil 1 ATF in mine, and forget about it.

I know previous owner of my honda had gear oil in the trans- it spec was for 10w30 motor oil.

Always change all the fluids of any vehicle you buy! Coulda saved me a burb transmission...
