Hey guys i have a k5 w/ a 350/700r/208. My 208 wont stay in 4high. I adjusted the slider on the linkage so there is very lil play. Then brought it to a field and just romped on it in 4high, it still didnt hold, it falls out into 2wd. As well as i can watch my tranny shifter jump a bit up and down. Could my shifter arms inside the 208 be dead for 4high? it works in 4low just fine. Truck drives fine in 2wd as well i can slam on the gas and nothing pops or moves. The cross member is tight, the tranny mount bolts are tight. So maybe the tranny mount is dead? The truck also has a 6" suspension lift, 14bolt rear 4:56 and detriot.. D44 4:56 up front if that means anything. Thanks for any advice guys!

Try a new trans mount. What kind of shape are your engine mounts in?

Sounds like you may have a mount problem or the mod fork inside the Tcase is having problems possibly.

I would look at the little plastic pads on your shift forks. When they wear, it usually allows enough movement in the fork to kick it back out of gear. It is a very simple design. I'd take it apart and see what you find.

never tore into a 208.. but how easy is that? i gotta take the 208 out to replace those correct?

Yep you have to take it out. It isn't hard to get into the case and get to the forks. The 208 is a pretty simple beast.

alright thats cool i have my bro's 208 thats already out, so i could just tear into that cuz it had the same problem. Where do you get replacement parts?

You get the little teflon pads for the forks at the GM dealer. They are a couple bucks each. If you have a bad fork you will need to find used parts or use your brothers case for spare parts. Bearings and seals can be had from places like Napa, GM, or I got some stuff from www.drivetrain.com when I need some parts for my 208 freshening.

Yes, those are the plastic pieces. That is a common problem, but I would look through the whole case, cause it might not be the cause ... hard to diagnose over the internet...

Just went through this process a few months back. I have a spare 27-spine 208 (disassembled). Avail if you have questions, etc once you get into it.

well i bought another 208 off a buddy, i may still dig into this one once i get it out. I just cant have my truck down for a week or so, its my DD.
