So I've seen several schematics online and in my Haynes manual. Nothing shows how these three "keys" or "tabs" go in along with the retaining rings and the brass ring (synchronizer?).

Yes, I'm an idiot and didn't take proper pictures. But once I get past this area I'm home free

I actually just read your thread at the bottom and was going to bump it for you because I have no clue but it seems like something that wouldn't be hard to answer for someone who has had one apart.:D

i dont remember thoose parts, did they come out the chevy or dodge case? when i got my dodge parts all it was a shaft and the tailhousing. that was it.

Those look like shift dog that were in my t-56 I rebuilt. The springs don't retain they push outward and the slider holds them in. So I would hold them on the slide the slider on and then place the springs.

I might be completely wrong but that is what it looks like to me.

Well I see that they are "synchronizer keys" and "synchronizer springs"

Still doesn't answer the question about how they should be installed

The three tabs align the synchro collar and blocking ring (synchro ring). They slide in from the side and then the retaining rings go inside of the tabs to hold them out. One spring on each end of the tab. Hope this helps.

I think I got the synchronizer keys installed properly. My question now is concerning the retaining clips, I believe I have one installed properly. Here are some pictures:

I think I have this side in correctly:

This is the side I'm more concerned with

Is this correct?

On a side note I don't understand what the hell these things are for anyway. Seems to me that I could just install the brass synchro ring without the keys and clips.

There should be a lip on the inside of the keys to keep the spring rings from slipping out. If they wont slip under the lip you might try flipping them end for end. The keys keep the synchro from turning more than half a tooth so the shift collar will slide over the gear without grinding.

bsically what he said i syncro is just to keep from grinding.if the truck is off and stopped you should be able to shift with no problems.

Ok... take a look at these pictures... look good now? The bottom you don't see has the ring under the key with the nipple of the ring inside one of the tabs. The top is the same way now. The reason I didn't do this originally is because you can't really install the top ring that way when the shaft is outside of the case because the tabs just pop off. This makes sense now because when I first took everything apart the tabs popped off.

Does this look right? Then the brass synchro ring basically rides on top of the syncrhonizer keys?

Sorry I didn't see this before. That is the correct way to install the keys. Finish assembling it and you should be good to go.
