I will most likely end up with a 208 behind a th700 since that would be more common and not in a beaten vehicle. But now I know more about the 241 for other things
No, they are not even close. The gov loks in 10 and 12 bolts are weak(not a 14BFF) unlike a 208 case. The 208 is strong enough for most people and it's main weaknes is not strength, it's pounding the aluminum housings against rocks that cracks them.sweetk30 said:question to all? are 208 tcases closly related to gov-boms?![]()

That's why the 208 is the right choice for a dd/ non beaten rig behing the th700 imho. A lot more of them than the mech speedo version 241
They are pretty much good for everything besides rock crawling. Not just behind a th700R4, but would work just fine behind a diesel and th400. (the military did it) Heck, I even have a 241 behind my 47RE auto and 24v cummins in my 3/4 dodge.....but it's the HD model.big_truxx said:Very good point! That's why the 208 is the right choice for a dd/ non beaten rig behing the th700 imho. It's pretty darned hard to break the chain and other internals of a transfer case when it's in good shape...
I agree.Jonny-K5 said:i think both 208 and 241 would be fine rockcrawlers if you fabbed up good skidplates. alot less weight than the cast iron 203/205. besides, even tho a cast iron case can handle the abuse, it makes more sense to slide on a skid plate than it does to put stress on your drivetrain, no matter what its made out of.
But I am thinking when I get the extra cash I will find me a good deal on a burb and put a 6.2 in it. The 700 will be good for it as it will be a dd/normal driving rig and not for hauling or wheeling. I have a pair of crew duallys atm that will be the haulers.
So I chose the 6.2/700/208 for availability and milage.
