Obviously, I have a np208c in my 88k5. I'm going into a transmission rebuild. I've read that rebuilding a 208c would be better served by replacement with a 241c. If that is true, does everything bolt right up to a 700r4? Does the new XFR case change the driveshaft lengths? The 241c I found said it came off a 89 k2500 with manual transmission. If this is a better XFR case, then what would I have to do to make it work for my k5. I already fixed my driveshafts to work with the 208 to the 1 ton axles. Thank y'all for your help!

the 89 may be a drivers drop if it was out of a pickup. Not sure on driveshaft lengths, as I recall they'll work. Just make sure you get a pass side drop from a 89-91 k5 sub or V-series truck. Then If your concerned about speedo working, you'll need the 89 model as its the one that still has mechanically driven speedo gear. later ones have electronic. Overall, a good upgrade, better low range, better internals.

Doesn't the "C" indicate Chevy, not drop?

I just got two for $100 each, so I don't think $300 is a good price.

If you aren't too afraid of wiring, the '90-91 241 electric speedo is a good swap, if you can justify it.

Should have no problem finding '89-91 Suburbans being parted out. Pretty sure everything bolts up between the 208 and 241.

can't remember, but behind a manual trans it may be a different input spline count too. They did made 241's in 32 spline too. You need a 27 spline. And if it is a K series pickup 2500, it will be a drivers drop and not work for you.

And I bought an 89 out of a burb with mech speedo (so everything bolted up exactly as it should) for $80 on craigslist. $300 seems a little steep to me

I swapped a 208 for a 241 and the drive shafts worked fine.

Funny, my 241 with SYE is 3/4" shorter overall than my 208 with SYE. It worked out perfect since the clocking ring added ~1/2" and my front shaft still worked fine.

ok, so yes to the swap, research weather manual trans input is the same or different than 700r4, the case i found did say 241c, driveshafts might work fine. NO to 300 bucks! Thanks folks!

The 241 is better, but not by a ton. It's actually pretty similar to a 208. The 208 has a couple of advantages, though. Finding a replacement is easier, since you can pull from pretty much the entire 80's, where the mechanical speedo thing really limits which 241s you can drop in. So if you find a good deal on the "right" 241, grab it. But a 208 rebuild kit is cheap and it can be overhauled in an afternoon. That's the other advantage of the 208 in this case - it's already there and it already works with your setup.

Pretty good points here ^^

It has been mentioned several times already but the "c" doesn't matter as that just means Chevrolet. The '89 K2500 pickup would have the driver's drop front output and not work. If it was a Suburban than it would be passenger drop but again not sure on the spline count. .
