Guy I know is coming over tomorrow to wire my compressor up in my garage. I am doing a 220 wall plug and wiring compressor so I can unplug to plug welder or plasma cutter I might get in future. He asked which receptacle I wanted to use. So which is most common for 220 welder and plasma cutter? Both would be newer models if i was to purchase. Can anyone help me out?

This is your standard 50Amp 220v plug for a welder.

A plasma of typical size will usually have a 20amp like so.

Also as a side note these are all neutral-less plugs. Its just two hot leads that flop between neutral and hot at the rate of Hz. The third is a ground. Depending on what else you might want to plug in there you may want to opt for a standard 50amp 4 prong and either piggy back another box with a 3 prong 50amp and 3 prong 20amp off of it or just do what we do at work and wire some adapter plugs.
