24 volt to 12 volt?

Metro I'l second what AJ said about the michigan trucks. But if it wasn't clear I'll put it this way, the truck might have a littleRUST just so you know.

24v systems...pffft boot it and get a high torque 12v. Run a single 135 amp alternator and spilt the wiring harness plus a few other things and say goodbye to headaches:wink1:

Ok, so the carc is easy to paint over. That's good news. Not planning on sanding but may do some cutting, respirator still? So any axle from GM should fit? Thanks for all the info about the voltage question, think I'm gona keep it till it craps out on me then replace it.

The CARC makes a good base coat, let's put it that way.
Yes, if you cut or sand the CARC in any way you should have a respirator.

These things are the lego blocks of fullsize trucks. At worst you'd need to move shock mounts and spring perches to make a GM axle fit. Just about anything you want to do has been done by someone on here five or six times and there's probably three write ups about it.

I'm looking at an 84 CUCV and have axles from an 89 Jimmy with 3.73 gears. Will they bolt right it, they r 10 bolts. Or just wait till I get the 3/4 ton stuff? Is the gear ratio difference gona make that much of a difference with 33's?

They would bolt right in.

That said...with the diesel and no overdrive you'd find it revving a bit high with 33's and 3.73's. My civy K5 diesel has 3.73's and 32's and even with the OD it's a bit low geared.

Ok that makes sense. I see in ur signature AJ that u hav one rhinolined. Did u hav to sand all the CARC paint off or just apply over it?

Yep, but no, you wouldn't need to sand the CARC off. Just make sure it has a rough texture and the paint is well adhered to the metal underneath.
