24 volt winch to 12 volt

Has anyone here wired a 24 volt warn winch for 12 volt use. I do have dual batteries but not set up for a 24 volt system. Is there a benifit to running at 24 volts? Thanks for any info.

Yes there is a benifit to running 24V over 12V.
Half the current to run the winch, meaning twice the run time !
Smaller wires to the winch.
You will need to wire the batteries, winch, and alternator very carfully.

You can't wire a 24 volt winch to run on 12 volts. It requires changing the motor to a 12 volt version.

Your alternative is to figure out how to use your existing batteries in series, to supply 24 volts to the existing motor. It shouldn't be too hard to supply 24 volts to the winch and still have just 12 volts to the rest of the truck.
