looking to swap my 241 with a 208 on my 89 k-5 with TH700 trany will it work?

YES it will. I just did it a month ago on my 89. Just make sure you have the 208 shift linkage because the 241 linkage will NOT quite cut it. Other than that, it is an open and shut case. My brother and I had it done in an afternoon using no special tools and floor jacks, (not the best way). Just undo the four bolts that connect the t-case to the tranny, slide one out and slide the other in and bolt it in. Good luck...keep me posted on how it goes!!

I most be all screwed up because I thought that 89's had 241np in them. What year did they put the 241 in then. I know they came out with the 241 in trucks starting in 88. Please let me know. Thanks

I dont think i have the 208 shifting linkage but i do have a torch a welder all the steel you could ever want and a A+ in welding class. Think i can do it?

Why?? The 241 is stronger than the 208, if you want to consider an aluminum case and chain drive strong... They both have the slip yoke in the case, both got chains, why not get a 205 or Atlas?

Im changing to a 208 cuz i cracked my 241 and have a 208 kicking around. Is the 208 geared lower?

Just for the record, my 88 has a 208 in it. And I'm pretty sure the 208 is the lowest geard stock production t-case.

I know the NP241 (that's what came in my 90) has a 2.6:1 ratio. I think the 208 is the same?
Joe, sorry, didn't know the situation. By all means, go the cheaper (FREE!) route and throw in the 208...

Maybe I should learn to read alittle closer. I thought that you was going from a 208 to a 241. Sorry about that. By the way what do you want for that cracked 241 t/c?

The 208 has a 2.61 ratio. The 241 has a 2.72 ratio. The 241 was first used in 1988. The 208 was first used in 1981.
