I am replacing the seals in the np241 I tore apart and I'd like to replace the sleeve bushing that is just inside the rear output seal because it looks a little worn.

Any ideas on the best way to get it out? It appears to be pressed in and very thin walled so I'm having trouble finding something to press it out with.

bushing / race driver set .

and get new and put in freezer for few hr's min then it will go in little bit better .

I managed to work something out with a giant C clamp and the back side of a 2" hole saw. :waytogo:

I now have a different problem. I pushed the old bushing out but the new bushing just falls through.

I checked several different bushings from a few different manufacturers and they were all the same OD and fell through. WTF?

It's almost like someone machined out the tail housing a bit and installed a larger OD bushing. :dunno:

Anybody ever had this problem? I checked just to be sure and a 208 tailhousing takes the same bushing so that isn't the problem.

Yeah common issue with the part store parts. You would think it would get corrected at some point.

The guy at Napa is 100% convinced that my tailshaft housing is a custom over bore and that his part is correct. :haha::haha::haha:

Wow, that's crazy that a part like that would be that wrong and not get corrected.
Thanks for the info. I'll get the right one ordered pronto

Which is weird cause my Napa has it right:dunno:

I tried a few napa stores here in SLC, even cross-referenced that part number, no dice. The brand they had was National and something else I don't remember but basically they were exactly the same as the o'reilly's bushing. Hopefully the ac delco one is better.

I got the bushing in today and I can confirm that the part number was correct.
ac delco 15665313 pressed perfectly into the 241 tailhousing.

I got the rest of the transfer case put back together but I have a slight concern.

In the video you can hear a small clicking noise that I don't remember hearing when I took it apart. It only happens in 4wd and I think it is the chain or the piece that engages the chain gear. Obviously there is no fluid in it so maybe this is normal for a dry case but I wanted to check with you guys just in case.

pet peve of mine SKIP THE DAM BLUE RTV its so cheep .

go get the rightstuff from permatex . and a little goes a LONG way . your extra showing on the outside has the same amount on the inside .

if it falls off it can plug up stuff .

guy I know was a teacher years ago and kid in his class re gasket'd a sbc . got it in and running just no oil pressure . had to pull it and took it to shop class and they pulled the pan and found 1/2 tube blue rtv in the pickup tube screen . rest of the motor was all over done or just blue rtv . got a gasket kit and clean it all out and had great pressure after . :dunno::haha:

Yeah, I saw that I used too much. Live and learn. As far as gaskets go, the local shop didn't have them so I did what I could.

Any comments on the clicking?

Just a quick bump to see if anyone else can comment on the noise. I'm looking to reinstall this thing today.

I hear rave reviews for stuff called "Yahmmabond" sold at Yamaha dealers that is supposedly "the best" for sealing things with split cases like motorcycle engines and transaxles, etc, that use no gasket...never used it yet myself--or "right stuff" either...I'm still stuck in the 90's with Permatex "ultra-copper" or "Super Hi-Temp orange" silicone stuff...it's been that long since I've replaced any gaskets or fixed leaky things..

I have heard of a goo in a can with a brush that's MACK truck spec and labled for the older rocker box covers . been told its like concrete . its yellow in color .

played video 2 times.

If I had to guess . . . shift fork hair out of 1 spot just clicking the syncro ramps / teeth . . . or the chain dry and just wanting lube .

but as I said I haven't played with them .
