I have an 89 Chevy 2500 4wd pickup. It has a 241 transfer case I want to pull out and change over to a 208 I have. I am going to rebuild the 241 and install it my 87 blazer project. The 208 is already rebuilt and the truck is just for work. Will I have any issues with installing this or should it bolt right up. Are there any mods I should consider?

isn't the front driveshaft on the '89 pickup on the driver's side?

the 208 is going to be a passenger side front drive shaft output

I think you are going to have major issues since both of those trucks from the factory have opposite front differential drops.

huhhh???? so wich year trucks are the 208 and 241 interchangable???? isnt a 241 a direct swap for the th350 and 700r trannys that have a 208

Yes if they came out of the same vehicle. 89 2500 is the NBS. Independent front suspension. Driver side drop. The 208 out of his blazer would be a pass. side drop. Unless he is in fact using a 241 PSD

lol
to to answer the question and simplify things

if they are matching drops, they should bolt right in, linkage and all.

What he said.

It's more common to find a 241 in driver side drop since so many of them were made ( Dodge used a ton of them and they are also driverside).

Someone swapped in a 241 into my K5 before I owned it, but it's not that big of a deal. A 208 and 241 are nearly identical anyway.

Somewhat similar in design, yes. Nearly identical, no.

Lower geared, stronger planetary gearset in the 241, resolved a bunch of strength issues, plus you can get an SYE for one. The 241 is essentially the improved version of the 208 and AFAIK no parts interchange between the two.

braze the oil hole closed in the end of the slip yoke..the one right under the U joint on the yoke..

replace ALL the seals on the slip yoke..they go bad by gettting hard and then let the oil go by..they also let the slip yoke wiggle up and down which lets oil past..the yoke is designed to slip in and out..tires, axle wrap wheeling hard, heat, worn tranny mounts, ect. cause the yoke to flex and seals to wear out. that allows the slip yoke to move up and down as it goes back and forth..the more it moves the worse it gets.

when a 208 or 241 leaks at the slip yoke..the rotation of the transfer case gears/chain creates suction..it will suck fluid out of your auto tranny, over fill the transfer case and then blow it out past the slip yoke seals, covering the whole rear of your truck with tranny fluid..

ask how I know..I had 2 of them rebuild in far away places after the yoke seals decided to go..its really funny when you pull the transfer case and are like... "Oh, theres all my tranny fluid" both of mine were filled to top.

I didn't know that. Makes sense though since I've heard of guys breaking 208's under k5's and 241's living under dodge cummins trucks.
