OK, I've been looking for a 1990-1991 241c to put behind a 4L60E. Is there any other way to get a transfer case that can run a VSS to use for a 5.3 swap?

jags that run makes an external VSS reluctor setup, and the 90-91 NP205 used on "our" body style trucks was also VSS.

Wonder if the 241's are light enough to ship Fedex, UPS, etc? Maybe have someone ship you one.

I had a '91 241C shipped from Wisconsin.....yes it will go UPS

The inline speedometer cable type VSS doesn't have good enough resolution to accurately feed the 5.3L PCM.

Worst case scenario you need to install a 40 tooth reluctor ring and VSS sensor on your driveshaft.

And if you are really contemplating an aftermarket VSS setup of any kind, and you don't already have a transfercase, just buy the right 241 from someone and have them ship it to you.

This person has no idea what they have, maybe you'll get lucky? http://roanoke.craigslist.org/pts/5099677873.html

4WD, does not mention t-case http://charlotte.craigslist.org/pts/5082613710.html

No idea how far each is from you. Compare the aftermarket options to what it's going to cost you to get a 241, and make up your own mind I suppose.

Was that in reference to my post? If so, I was using it on my 208 for my 6.0 without issues. The only reason I'm not using it now was because I got a different transfer case.

You're one of the few I've heard of who didn't have trouble converting a 2000 pulse per mile signal to a 40 pulse per driveshaft revolution signal. Most I've heard of had issues with their transmissions shifting properly and erratic speedometer readings. If you are running only the engine without controlling a transmission or running an electronic speedometer then it doesn't really matter how accurate it is, just that it is showing when you are moving or not, when you are accelerating and when you are decelerating.

hmmm, that could be the difference then. I am currently running an NV4500.

Where are you looking? I found mine in a local junkyard. There wasn't a ton of them but there were a few. Came with the adapter too.

dyeager535, that last one had a 241. Was 5 hours round trip but I got it for $200. It didn't have the instrument cluster anymore or I would've gotten it too. Oh well, get it later as I find it.

you can swap a vss onto an earlier 241. Swap a reluctor gear in place of the speedo drive gear and swap in a vss housing.

It's been done here somewhere and I have the parts to do it on my rig when I get a 241 to swap out my 208.

they're in the garage, I'll dig up the reluctor gear part # tomorrow for ya.

found the thread...it's easier than it sounds, don't overthink it. :waytogo: click

Glad you found one!

Cluster shouldn't be too difficult. Just keep searching CL for 1990 and 1991 Suburban and K5.
