24v to 12v starter conversion

My starter stopped fully engaging and now only grinds, I haven't dropped it yet. whats involved in converting the 24v setup to 12v for the starter? How long would a 12v starter last without converting? thanks in advance.

Nevermind, my flywheel is missing a chunk out it. starter teeth appear to be fine.
