283 liters?

Im pretty sure the newer GM 4.8 is real close to 283cid. I dont know the conversion but it dont realy matter. The manufactures usualy round it up to sound bigger anyway. For example chevy 350 is a 5.7 but fords 351 is a 5.8 yet a dodge 360 is a 5.9. the gap between 1 cubic inch on the ford and chevy and the gap between ford and dodges is 4 cubic inches yet theres only .3 differnce in the liters between them all.

This I do know for sure on the GM engines.
262 v8 = 4.3L
283 v8 = 4.8L
327 v8 = 5.3L
350 v8 = 5.7L

The C.I.D. is rounded up and so is the Liters. For example the age old 350 is actualy only 349.3ish C.I.D.
the old 327 and the new 5.3 are the same bore and stroke BUT GM desided to lable the 5.3 as 328cid

My numbers may be off a tiny bit but as you can tell it doesnt realy matter.
Its like ATV's and such, a 700 yamaha raptor isnt a true 700cc engine its like 680cc or something

I think alot of it was marketing too, I wouldn't put it past Ford to try and upstage GM by making the 351 (5.8) vs. the 350 (5.7). If it's one ci bigger, it must be better, right?

Now that you mention it FORD realy cracks me up. first they was always trying to have bigger displacments, NOW they have smaller displacements, with larger power numbers. I cant help but think fords v10 is just stupid, isnt it like a 6.8L? or smaller even? Hell I dot know fords very well. There just too many stupid ideas for me to keep track of.

For all the nerds out there...

1 liter = 61.02374409473 cubic inches

283cid = 4.638 liters
305cid = 4.889 liters
327cid = 5.359 liters
347cid (LS1 IIRC) = 5.686 liters
350cid = 5.735 liters
351cid (Ferd) = 5.752 liters
360cid (Mope-r) = 5.899 liters
383cid = 6.276 liters
400cid = 6.555 liters
427cid = 6.997 liters
454cid = 7.440 liters
502cid = 8.226 liters
and finally 572 = 9.373 liters

Of course the actual values will depend on the actual bore and stroke (the cid values are approximations/round offs)

The "round up" manufactures use is realy off then. Everyone knows the 305 in firebirds trans ams and cameros claimed 5.0L when in reality they was closer to 4.8 same with fords 302.

ford still has bigger displacements than chevy for some engines or at least that's their claim. chevy has the 5.3, ford has the 5.4.
