2insane’s Random 6.2/6.5 Diesel Projects

Finalizing the Red CUCV Utility Box truck invoice. I installed his Pyro, boost and oil pressure gauge. I did the dog head relay mod, a cb radio package, new blower fan with heavy ground, override his cold advance idle switch, new license plate light, fixed the gauge cluster bulbs and got him started on a diesel fuel treatment after dropping the tank and cleaning out the sending unit sock from debris and algae slime. Finial test drive 6 proved to be a great success! I am releasing the truck back to the customer. I am very happy with the results. She can maintain 7psi boost easily and can spike above 10 psi if desired by the customer. Not recommended though… LOL! Egts are staying at a steady 500-600 degrees at 75mph.

I am done working on customers rides until next spring. I hate wrenching in the winter. I might help customers out this winter if they are out of service and/or there is a warranty claim.

I like the finned aluminum gauge bracket.
Yeah it’s pretty cool! The customer picked the mounting plate, gauges and the location. He wanted a A-Pillar mount but did not want to sacrifice losing the spot light. Here’s a few pics of it while I was putting it in. All three gauges are mechanical.

Spring is here with a whole new plethora of 6.2/6.5 projects! Mostly personal….

So I scored a running 94 6.5 TD with a 2000 NV4500/241 for $1500. Sold the motor to a customer for $500 and am going to sell the 241 but install the NV4500 into my 6.2 Banks K30.

I also sold the K30 Utility box for $1200 and on the way back from Moab I got this M101 for $1000. I plan on using the box on the M101 for my K30 build. Look at all that mud in between the tank and tank skid plate! Woah!

I scored a free broken grill with good inserts and swapped the center insert onto a good new grill for a customer. I’ll be installing it tomorrow.

A customer said that their oil pressure gauge was acting up. I took a look at it and came to the conclusion that a mechanical gauge would be best.

I am not sure if this has ever been done before but… I hole sawed the old gauge to use as a mounting point and picked up a cheap 2 1/16” $20 gauge at O’Reillys. Here’s results. It turned out well I think!

I have also been working on this other customers truck for awhile. He towed it on a trailer to my shop. The main complaint was that it would not start without ether. After throwing in all new glow plugs, fixing a bunch of wiring and giving it a full tune up, it now fires right up!

There was also huge list of other issues wrong with it that I showed the customer. The customer wanted me to do the whole list! Super excited!

I installed a new door switch for the dome light, new tank switch, found a junk yard horn button and replaced the horn contact spring. All new lights on the utility box. A few junkyard lights added for the front. Removed the carpet, painted floor and installed new dash speakers. Currently swapping from a th350 to th400 for him with a 32 spline converted np208. Deleted egr system and added a J code plenum. Hole sewed the Oem air filter box to give it more air. New batteries with terminals.
