good runnign complete 475 tranny out of an 87 2wd pickup

technically called the 3L80HD

it is th400 case and everything but is 27 spline

comes with good working starter and matching 87-up flexplate and stick and tube and converter and everything,
truck ran and drove fine,
i have pics of tranny and the truck it came from

this is a hard tranny to find, very few made, will last forever.
would be great for a big truck

it needs a new home,

offer?
trade ?
questions ?
want the tag info off it?

can be converted to 4x4 tailshaft with 400 parts

no mail unless you have it arranged somehow from 62656

I'm not interested in the tranny but i am interested in the tag info on it. I once had a TH475 and it was 32 spline, i know the TH375's were 27 spline though. Also these straight cut geared tranny's were never installed in trucks, they were however found in motorhomes and larger vehicles like bobtail trucks. Like i said, i would be interested in tag info to expand my knowledge bank if it does happen to turn out to be a 27 spline TH475.

tag info is

8 7 L J A

stock, factory all original 1/2 ton 2wd 1987 silverado pickup

305 and 3L80HD

2 piece driveshaft with carrier bearing

and yes its a 27 spliner,

42 and HD cast on the bellhousing in two different locations,

also L J A black dye-stamped (in capitalized letters) on the bellhousing real big too,

34 and 5/8" long overall from front of bell- to the very end of the tail,

IE that is 3" longer than a 9" tail th350 tranny

i still have the driveshaft too, for longbed pickups

apparently there was an 87 version of a heavy half ton lol, or whatever you want to call it, or they ran out of 700r4 trannies that year

who knows

why would a 1/2 ton 2wd truck come with the straight cut gears? i thought they were only used in some one ton trucks and motor homes?!

Exactly.

ya know what i think?

i think yall think too much,

i think you can go ask GM,

cuz i thnk i dont know either

and when you think you have found out why they did this- then you could inform me and maybe even the rest of us also.

just cuz ya think something doesnt mean that it is how it is

since everyone likes to say what they THINK- i will now add what i THINK:

i THINK that i am tired of ppl second guessing everything/everybody and acting like they know everything- and like to pretend that they do- and only believe what they think something should or shouldnt be,

please stick to informative posting ?

hum

still for sale/trade

lots of different things i would trade for
a 14 FF axle

a dead c-20 or c-30 rolling body,

various interesting items from a 67-72, engine or body related,
hmm..

thanks

i spent the last 12 years in the domestic transmission industry so i would assume that i know more about this stuff than most people who share our hobby. i had never ever seen a 1/2 ton truck with straight cut gears in a th400 from the factory. especially one with the th375 27 spline output shaft in it. heck, most 1/2 ton trucks had th350s from the factory and even TH350Cs. but then again, you already knew that. my reply was a friendly question, not some asshat accusation.
