2WD Blazer:

I did pretty much what you have in mind with a 2wd short bed. I did look for a 2wd blazer but found a short box first. Put 3/4 ton 2wd stuff on the frame so I could run a low geared 14b without spending and real money. I have lots of 14b and 8 lug rims kicking around. Swapped the 8 lug stuff on the front and added a line lock. Put a cage in it and used it as a dirt road slayer. Does nasty burnouts. Bed sides only with a fuel cell. With the heavy duty suspension parts I can slide down into the ditch and just stay in the throttle without worrying about breaking stuff. Right now it has a set of Hakapelita studded snows on it, really eats up a dirt road. It is where all my leftover parts have ended up. Its a savage, totally useless and totally fun.

Waiting for pics like

I hear you guys. I don't have pics here, its a truck I put together a while back using all my spare parts. I saved a very poorly done lowrider. Its out at the shop in the mothballed fleet, I will pull it out and get a few pics. A 3/4 ton 2wd shortbox is certainly worth sharing.

I was wondering about that too. Or even doing a spring under mono leaf on a 4wd. Pull the front shaft and use the axle as a dead tube. Idk if that’s even work but there’s gotta be ways.

There's precious little room above the front springs on a stock-height square body. My old saggy truck had so little clearance that it slammed a U-bolt into the frame rail. A stock axle tube is not going to fit above the stock springs without cutting the frame. Plus the pumpkin would probably be through the oil pan. I think that by that point it'd be easier using the stock IFS setup, like Gus was suggesting.

But whatever you guys do, post pictures...

Put in a straight axle,like a gasser!..:D
Wont ride or handle any better than the solid 4x4 axle though.

I've seriosly thought about doing this with my '72 pile o parts. It's titled as a 2wd but on a 4wd frame. I thought about just using some heavy wall pipe and 10 bolt inner Cs and the knuckles and all and just plugging the backside of the spindle. Maybe some 52" springs in a spring under configuration or something softish.

I would like to see production numbers but would guess that out of the total K5 Blazers built only a very small percentage were 2wd. Keep in mind that GM didn't even offer 2wd versions over the entire production run. It is mentioned above, and I have heard that number also, that '82 was the last year of the 2wd version. I've always loved K5's since I was a kid and bought one shortly after I had a license and saved up enough money 25 years ago, and because of that any K5 on the road or parking lot caught my eye. Outside of some type of special event or car show I think I've only seen maybe 2-3 2wd K5s in person in my lifetime.

Yeah I know. Was thinking before a 2WD blazer would make a great sleeper. Not pulling that off with a 305.

I wouldn't say that...the '75 2wd I had ,after I put in a '71 307 from a K-10 Suburban I parted out,and swapped in a Saginaw 4 speed from a '74 Vega,that thing could lurch off the line fast enough to beat Mustang GT's in the first 3 gears,even with a dinky 2 bbl
..one friend swore he saw the front tires lift 2" off the ground once when I left his house and wound it up and dumped the clutch!..:D..

A 2wd K5 is a lot lighter than a 4x4 and doesn't have as much rolling resistance,so even a smaller engine can propel one along pretty respectably, especially if the rear end gears are on the lower side..
I think mine had 4:10's..the Vega tranny had a lower first gear than most Saginaw's used in other cars like Camaro's too, which gave it good launches..

I almost put a 454 I had in it with a TH400,but I figured that would be a waste, seeing the truck couldn't carry anything or plow,I decided to keep that for a 4x4..I bet it would have just spun around in circles with a BBC in it!..
