I know you all use the 2wd drive steering boxes for cross over.. but what about as a replacement for our 4x4's with the regular push pull steering? Can the 2wd pitman arm be index properly?

not completely clear on what your question is but i think i understand. yes you can use a 2wd box as a replacement for a 4x4 box and still use stock steering.
as far as i know

Well I'm looking at possibly needing a steering box in my 89... truck is stock for now but will be lifted and uglier eventually. If I'm going to pull the box, may as well only do it once. Figure to put the brace in too..

If you are going to all that trouble, why not just go crossover
a 2wd steering box is like $50 tops and crossovers around $400-$500 that might be why

plus throwing in a new box is not any trouble. what are you talking about?

It's not much trouble, but if I need a box anyways and the 2wd will work without any issues, why buy a 4wd box if in a year I'll still need a 2wd box. Not sure if I need a box yet, having a friend look at it first.

no no he was saying why not just do crossover and i was saying becuase it cost to much. but yea go for the 2wd box for shur just incase you ever decide to.

I didn't realize it wasn't lifted yet. You are right. Its a bit more money but not that much. Maybe if you do the high steer too.

If its not lifted, and you put a drop pitman arm on it, there is a chance the drag link could contact the steering arm as it will be sloped down from the arm.

Gotcha :D

The truck will definitely get crossover eventually, but for now it just needs to steer. I think the original box is pretty worn out, but I want to swap in an XJ shaft first and see if that helps, though I think there is excessive play in the current box.

Next year the truck will be lifted with a shackle flip(doing a 3" suspension lift) and on 33's, and maybe crossover. It's more just a toy to tool around the hills but the push pull definitely sucks for anything more than a pot hole.

yea definitely use a 2wd box. i dont see a downside. I'm using one with stock steering but I'm slowly getting all my crossover parts. at WFO concepts the kit it $500 but you can find it cheaper than that. i haven't found NEW one anywhere for less than $400 but i could be wrong.

So you are using a 2wd box? Did the stock 2wd arm work clocked or did you have to go ahead and get a dropped arm(the one you are going to use for crossover).

Thanks, Kenny

What drop pitman arm are you using? How much lift?

ORD has their kit for $380 + s&h right now.. very tempting, but I think I'll give a year and do the suspension first. It's going to get 3" TC E-Z rides up front and the ORD 2.5" Shackle flip with DIY4X's 6" shackles. Got the the flip and shackles, that's half the expense right there.. Shocks, drop pitman arm, front springs, and rear u-bolts(got 10 bolt front u-bolts already) and I'll be set.

Why do you need new rear Ubolts if you are just going to be running a shackle flip? Are you are planning a different rear end?

Going to pull the springs and inspect them, and if bad replace. This 'burb has at least 250K on it and sags a bit. Definitely plan to paint and replace the pads on the springs a well.

i have a drop pitman arm and draglink from ORD. all the other crossover goods are from WFO.
