Hey all,
I am in the midst of my crossover conversion and i bought an upgraded 2wd box from AGR to use for it. I bolted the box in today and now the flexible coupler on the steering shaft doesn't fit over the input of the new steering box.

Took a measurement and the input on the new box is like 3mm larger than the input on the old box. Did 2wd trucks use a different steering shaft? Is it possible the PO did something weird with the steering and I don't have an original box? Anyone have an box lying around that the could take a measurement of the input shaft for?

This is a 73 K5 btw.

Has anyone run into this before? If so, how did you fix it???

Thanks,
John

There are actually two different input shaft sizes.
Of memory I think 13/16 and 3/4. You will need to get the correct input steering flange/coupler of your new box

You can search junk yards or buy new.

When I ran into that problem I found a large coupler from an 80s caprice but other cars and trucks had the larger size.

x2 on 2 diffrent sizes.

if you got that much money in a steering setup then time for u-joint steering shaft upgrade also.

search here for jeep shaft upgrade. its cheep to do.

not dissin the agr but way to much money these days . better choices out there for way less.

I wanted to do the jeep steering shaft upgrade but it looks like it won't work with a 73 column. Has someone recently figured out a way to make that work?

I measured the input and its 13/16 and the old was 3/4 so that explains the issue. Luckily rock auto has the proper rag joint for 17 bucks so I'll order one of those.

If you guys know of a steering shaft upgrade for the 73 column though, I'll hold off and do that for sure.

As for the AGR, I had a summit gift certificate that I needed to use, otherwise I would have gone with a PSC.
