So I had the 2wd box apart last weekend. Replacing some seals. Put it back on, everything lined back up, wheel straight and all. Problem is turning to the left will not even bottom out the stop on the knuckle. Turning right will bottom out the stop and wants to keep going. Double checked the splines on the sector shaft. Pulled p arm and re-centered the shaft by going lock left with the wheel. All the way right counting rotations, dividing by to to center everything. Still no good. Besides, you only have adjustment every 25* anywayon the sector shaft anyway. I am going to pell the input shaft again tomorrow and see if it as anything I missed. Any comments?:dunno:

you need to adjust your draglink. if it is too long it will have exactly the symptoms you are talking about.

If you had the sector shaft out your problem is that the rack nut wasn't centered when you reinstalled the sector shaft. This will allow the steering to only go so far in one direction.

I never had the sector shaft out of the box. The steering was fine before I pulled the bpox apart. The dlink was adjusted and life was good. I do remember under the input seal, when you remove the big treaded bolt (with the spanner wrench holes) that inside you had two notches. These notches were 180* apart. When I dropped the big threaded picece back in the box, I guess it might be possible that I could be off a notch or two. But it doesn't look like that would matter.

The spool valve will only go in one way. If you did not have the sector shaft out of the box then you have a misadjusted drag link. The drag link not being adjusted properly and the sector shaft not being centered with the rack nut are the only two things that can cause your problem.

I will take a look at that. Just curious haw long is your dlink. I just got done with my xover and made my own dl, so I'm cutting it down a little at a time so I don't run out of adj. with it.

I have the "bent" drag link from ORD on my crossover steering. I have no idea how long it is.

I made mine from a tie rod from an 86 K5. I kept the left side (left hand thread), cut it to length, and then re-threaded the I.D. with a tap to match the original thread (7/8-18). So I still have plenty of length left on the DL. But won't shortening the DL throw your steering wheel off center. Right now the Steering wheel is center. And the DL is adjusted to have the right tire pointed straight. If you shorten the DL it will bring the tire in (toward the driver's side). Then do you adjust it back to straight with the tie rod? When I say straight I mean with toe also.

who cares if the wheel is straight if you can't turn one way. it will probably be slightly off, but you will be able to turn.

Yep, got under it this evening. Re-adjusted the dlink (shortened it) and got my left turn back. The wheel is 180* off now but that thing turns like a champ!:woot: I was going about it the wrong way as far as adjusting goes. Thanks for the info guys. Hving that steering box apart just threw me off, I thought for sure I had put that thing back together wrong.

are you done working on your truck so you can come over and work on mine???

We will have to talk about that one. I think my wife is getting tired of onlyy seeing me for dinner time. It has been home from work and straight to the garage for a long time!

Hey Mudstud, I got the seals from Advance. You can get different rebuild kits for various prices. Just make sure you have a general idea of what you need or atleast where in the pump it is located. I had to actually walk behind the counter and show the non-mechanically inclined female that was helping me exactly what I was looking for. Not bashing chicks but there was a girl helping me.
