As the title states, I have a 2wd Burb that I'm converting to 4wd. The front axle will be a D44, but it doesnt have the right parts for a crossover. So what do I need to do to use the 2wd with the stock D44 steering setup?

using the stock push/pull steering you will need a 4wd sector shaft to put in your box to convert it, and the 4wd pitman arm. You could probably find someone on here willing to trade your sector for their 4wd sector & pitman.

And then of course you will need the 4wd draglink and the d44 should have a steering arm on it assuming its complete, if not, the steering arm that goes on the axle.

Is the burb lifted at all?

I think the stock 4x4 pitman works on the 2wd box, I'm not sure I could check

no 2wd turns left to right and full spline sector shaft.

4x4 turns front to back 1/4 splined sector shaft.

but you can swap them in the boxes.

I have a couple 4x4 sector shafts and maybe even the pitman arm. If you want i'll check tomorrow IF i make it to work (having some medical issues right now preventing me from walking). Send me a PM.

k20: The Burb is getting 52" springs on the front with 6-7" shackles. By guesstimation, thats 4" lift from a stock 4wd height. I also have access to the 4wd box, pitman arm and draglink from a stock 4wd with a 10b, but I'm handing this truck off to a friend and dont want to rob a ton of parts which is why I wanted to know how much 2wd stuff can be reused.

sweetk30: Can just the pass side be replaced, cuz my reading was that both sides had to be replaced, and thats pushing the budget when adding in the cost of the crossover setup.

All: How hard is it to change out the sector shaft? I'm mechanically capable, but dont have a full-out auto shop, so tools are limited. Also, what is a good size for a u-bolt on a D44 with 52" springs?

52" springs will be no good with push / pull 4x4 box system from what i have read. almost everyone goes crossover and or swaps to it in the end.

and just check the knuckle for tie rod on top or bottom and check the pass side flat top knuckle for same.

this guy looks good and fast havent used him yet. but friend needs 1 done will try him. http://www.jnutter.com/index.html
