Bout to start the crossover steering conversion for my 89 and was wondering: will any Chev 2wd steering box from 88-98 work?

no. the IFS boxes mount inside the frame. look for one out of the same body style truck you have. my trucks an 83 and it has the O ring style hoses. so at least anything that old or newer should work.
