Hey guys, so I'm getting all the stuff together I need for my Dana 60 swap into my K5. So I do things right the first time, I wanna install crossover steering with it. I have a 4WD box right now and have absolutely no clue as the best pace to get a 2WD one from for the swap? :dunno: junkyard, or new? And who sells a good reliable unit? I'm about fed up with box store junk... Everything I've put on the truck lately, I'm taking right back off to get a new one because of some issue with the part. I eventually wanna do hydro assist as well, don't know if that makes a difference on who or where to get the box from...

Thanks in advance!

I got one from a pick and pull, and got lucky and it worked. You could also order the sector shaft and change yours out if you would prefer to do it that way. Another thing to consider, welding the frame braces in while the box is out, as crossover puts a hella stress on the frame right there.

yup, junkyard. They should be plentiful so you can pick out the one that looks the best and newest. :)

Yeah can you explain the XJ shaft? I've heard of several people doing this, I've just never read into how it works...

You southwest guys crack me up. Someone pull me a good clean 2wd steering box and ship it up here. Cause these trucks just don't exist in jy's up here in the rust belt anymore.

The xj mod gets rid of the rag joint... There are a bunch of threads on here about it... Someone just posted one the other day, something about newbie fab projects... Pretty easy...

NAPA auto parts. Just put my 4wd gearbox in the box and returned as the "core"

Basically a 86ish to 97ish Jeep Cherokee. NOT the Grand Cherokee. Its 2 bolts, easy to pull out. It helps if you can find one with the motor yanked already, as there is more room, but its no big deal either way. It is basically a bolt on item, you will have to grind a trough in the factory chevy column stub shaft thing to get the Cherokee shafts pinch bolt to fit. You will feel the difference in the crispness of the steering. Plus it looks nicer.

Another thing that is a cheap item of possible interest is the Ford Windstar elec fans. I believe from the 3.8L. Cheap and easy. Plus its actually a shroud and I dont know about many of you, but most trucks around here dont have the shroud anymore as it got broken.
