Hi everybody,
I've got a 79 silverado single cab long bed that I absolutely love for no specific reason, I just know I can't bring myself to part with it, but its only 2wd. I've recently picked up an 89 v1500 4wd suburban for a parts truck and I am seriously entertaining doing the swap on the silverado to make it a 4wd. My question is, does anybody know if the rear driveshaft will interchange? For the most part the silverados undercarriage and drive train will resemble the suburban, and I want to say the wheelbase is similar between the two, but i don't have the two side by side to compare. Thanks!

Probably not--the Suburban is a bit shorter wheelbase than a long bed pickup and most likeky the yokes will be different splines, even if the length were close enough...not that hard to modift the 4x4 one to work though..

Its an intensive amount of work making a 2wd frame a 4x4 by swapping all the 4x4 parts on--lots of rivet removal and spring hanger swapping,etc...

Might be easier to put the 79 cab and bed on the suburban frame, but that wont be a cake walk either really..better search some threads here and read up on those who made a 4x4 out of a 2wd before undertaking a task like this..
