My brother is looking to pick up an 87 2wd crewcab and use his 81' 4wd as a donor. The crewcab is in nice shape inside and just needs some new piant, no big deal. Anyways he has a 454/465/208 that will be going into the crewcab, It has a 2wd th400 in it now, but it looks like a low hump. It has nice carpet, so can we get away with a bodylift instead of changing the tunnels? Will a 1" be enough?

My th350 with np205 fit

I'll see if a th400/205 fits next weekend

I've asked many guys this. Some say they were able to make it fit fine
and some say they needed a body lift. I'll be doing the same and just have to wait and see when the time comes. No help I know.

He has a removeable hump in his 81, I looked underneath the crew cab and no dice, its a solid floorpan. The carpet is nice enough to not want to ditch it just yet. The carpet wont work if I put the high hump in it.

I swapped a mid 80s 2wd cab onto my 84 4x4 frame with th350/np208 and didnt have any clearance issues.

Now the truck has an 86 4x4 cab, or part of it:D, and an sm465/np208 and it sits pretty high up into the hump. I dont think the 2wd cab would have cleared without modification.

A body lift will help, but not sure if 1" will be enough.
I don't have any 2wd anymore so I can't measure the difference but whatever the difference between the humps would be what you need.

Crap I forgot that we swapped cabs years back when I rolled it, It is a 77' frame with a 2wd 81 cab on it, we had to swap tunnels on it.

2wd 81-up were 1 peice pan.

2wd to clear 465 or 400 with 205 i have done 2 with a 2" body lift no problems.

hardest part is getting shifter hole loccation punched.

if you have a good bolt in pan section from 4wd set over and mark holes and use fender clip nuts to hold bolts on pan when you bolt it on.

th400/np205 cleared fine on my 2wd suburban
