Considering a new diesel Tahoe with the 3.0 Duramax and 10-speed auto.

Any experience/opinions out there?

Biggest concern I’ve read at the moment is the timing belt is on the back of the engine and is going to be $$$ to replace it at a 150k. Everything else has been positive.

The rear riming belt and an oil bath belt running the oil pump. If I was planning to buy a vehicle, drive it until the warranty ran out and start over again. This engine would be at the top of my list. But if I have to deal with it. Too expensive.

Just like the new C8 corvette requires the rear subframe with its engine and transmission to be dropped at 50K miles to change the accessory belt. Those things are going to start showing up for sale at that mileage with a nice low price.

This would get us thru 100k over the next 5 years.

Back story: Wifey's Honda Pilot sharted the bed at 102k. It's 6 years old - needs a new fuel pump and control arms, as well as wear items like tires and a windshield. Not happy. Meanwhile we have a huge 13-year-old kid and a 130-pound dog. Drive a friend's 3.0 Silverado and really liked it, as well as the idea of a bigger rig with better mileage.

The kid and the dog will both be on their way out in about 5 years.

I did a bit of reading on it, as I love the idea of a small diesel.

Apparently the oil pump belt is good for 150-200k miles per GM (two different specs but same part # ). I think I saw a quote of $4k for a shop to replace it.

These things really are to the point that they need dumped before anything major goes wrong. The repair costs are just so high!
